Jack of All Trades

Hey all! So much has happened in the first half of the year for me as an artist. I have been focused on learning how to use my sewing machine I got for Christmas and my new Canon DSLR camera. Now I am NOT going to take photos of other people for money. It will mainly be used for taking quality photos of my art to be printed, my daughter during at home photo shoots, videos to edit for social media, etc. Photography will not be added to my services it’s just not something I have a passion for. I’ll leave that to the professionals.

As far as my sewing machine I absolutely love Betty. Yes, I named my sewing machine. Think she deserve to have a name. I have been creating a lot with Betty. Some projects so far include a swimsuit for my daughter. I accidentally ordered an adult size swimsuit so I took that and made it to fit her. Some lessons learned is making a one piece is hard and swimsuit material is difficult to work with as well. I also made a swimsuit for myself using fabric I found at Walmart for $5. Don’t sleep on Walmart and their craft section. There are some good finds if you look closely.

Also, I am happy to announce that I was invited by Earby Studios to do another fashion show this October in Atlanta. How exciting! I plan on having over 20 wearable art pieces for the fashion show. Now I know what you’re probably thinking, I do a lot as an artist. I like to say I am a jack of all trades. The complete saying is “a jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one“ . This saying was once considered a compliment a long time ago. I promise you having multiple trades or talents is a benefit as an entrepreneur. Being a Jack of all trades helped me with self discovery. I learned my strengths and weaknesses and that monotony is torture for me. I like variety. And I have a better chance of my work being seen and making a sell if I show all of what I am capable of doing. But please believe everything I create is quality.

Some things that I am working on is a portrait using graphite pencils. I want to fill up all of my sketchbooks and do like a Timelapse of some of the drawings. Another thing I am working on is palette knife painting using a thick medium. An artist on Instagram inspired me to do palette knife painting. Only downside is finding a place for the painting to dry completely unbothered.

My goal this year as an artist is consistency. Always creating and perfecting my craft. Rather that includes jewelry making, body painting, sewing or knitting. I want to always create to help with stress or step away from adult responsibilities for a while. Also, to make sure I don’t put a lot of pressure on myself to feel like I have to record myself creating. I want to create with a purpose of finding peace and happiness and not so much on having to create content for social media. Having to set up a tripod and camera beforehand kind of takes the fun and enjoyment out of creating. You will see more jewelry, press on nails, sculptures, headpieces, body art, tattoos (maybe), paintings and so much more from me this year.
