My art space
Over the years my art space has changed a lot. I went from the little tykes art desk to drawing on the floor to my first real art desk in middle/high school. I kept that desk until I was 28 or 29. It became wobbly and chipped over the years but I didn’t care it served it’s purpose. I finally decided to let it go once I received a new one as a gift from my mom. What you are about to see is my art space before cleaning and organizing. I rather be transparent and show how it looks 50% of the time since we moved and still organizing and unpacking.
Currently my art space is in my guest room. I have my table sitting near the window in the corner because natural lighting is always best when drawing, painting, and taking pictures of your art. Reason it’s not facing the window is because I have a toddler and I rather not have my back towards her if she decides to walk in. Homegirl get in everything. Also i need the sunlight to be on my work as much as possible. Before I moved i decided to go through all of my art supplies and get rid of things I no longer had use for and donated/gave to a local summer program. I still have somewhat a lot of stuff, apparently according to my partner.
I purchased a pegboard off of Amazon to put most of my paint, brushes, markers, pencils, and other things like erasers and pencil sharpeners. This is all of the paint I own. I decided to stick with certain brands and limit the amount of colors I have. Any color I need I can make it. On the pegboard I also have body spray paint, leather acrylic paint, and oil paint. My markers are not the really expensive brand like copic or EverBlend but they get the job done and they were a gift. So no complaints here. There is also wire and string for waist beads. A pair of scissors to have close by and two towels to wipe my paint brush on. This pegboard is the best purchase I made so far to keep myself organized and use less space. I am planning on buying more pegboards soon.
I have a three drawer container that have all of my tattoo equipment and accessories. Two tattoo machines, pedals, gloves, covers for cords and the tattoo pen, needles, cleaning solution, Vaseline, practice skin, transfer paper etc. pretty much I have everything i need to tattoo when I decide to quit playing around and take it seriously again. Just need to build a clientele/following in this new state and put my portfolio together. If you’re wondering why doggy pads, they are used to cover my table that my ink, machine(s), power supply and needles to soak up any spilled ink or bodily fluids. I also use them to place under the client when tattooing. All surfaces must be covered!
My other drawer contains aprons, black light for my neon/glow in the dark paint. I have two table easels for my lessons I teach or when I am at art shows I bring them with me to display my art. I also have a drawer with just adhesive things and finishers. I have every type of tape and glue you can think of. I need to be ready for all mishaps. I also have a drawer with my beads for waist beads and other jewelry I make along with earring posts, chains, studs, and other materials for jewelry. In that same drawer I have my silicone molds for resin art sculptures. On top of the drawer are my sketch books, Palestine clay and plaster, and some sketches that doesn’t have a home on my wall of art yet. In the corner is my canvas cover and tarp to cover the floor or my table when i am painting or doing some resin art.
I do want to rent out a space, buy a small shed to make into an art studio, or have an entire room as my art studio whichever comes first. It will be my own little version of a man cave hehe. When that happens I can buy more equipment and supplies to really create.
